Exploring the Little River's Natural Gifts: Why Conserving Nature is Essential for Community Wellbeing

  • Virtual Presentation via Zoom (Link With Registration) (map)

Join Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper for a Zoom presentation to discuss the 54-acre Little River and efforts to permanently conserve this special land in Belfast. Pete Nichols, Executive Director of Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper, will give an update on the campaign to protect Little River, and former board member, Susie O’Keeffe, will explore the many unique natural features this land encompasses, including the direct connections between land and river conservation and the long term health of the Penobscot Bay.

We’ll take a quick look at the role of wetlands, streams, and maturing forests in combating climate change, and discuss why we should be equally concerned about species extinction and habitat destruction. We’ll learn about the many species who use this area, including birds, amphibians and mammals, and why their wellbeing, as well as that of the forest and wetlands, is intimately linked to our own.

Susie will also touch on the latest science concerning the role intimate relationship with nature and natural areas plays in addressing the mental health crisis. There will be time for questions and discussion after this 20 - 30 minute presentation.

While this is a free event, registration is required. Upon successful registration, an email receipt will be sent with a Zoom link to the presentation. We will also send a reminder with the Zoom link prior to the event.

Thank you!
