Strategic Plan
The Penobscot Bay watershed is an exceptional natural, cultural and economic resource worth protecting. Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper envisions a thriving Penobscot Bay watershed that nurtures all life, and works everyday to fulfill its mission to “boldly advocate for the health of Penobscot Bay Watershed through science, public action and community engagement.”
The Board of Directors and staff leadership have charted a course of action to protect Penobscot Bay Watershed, with the following pillars:
Advocate: Protect Penobscot Bay Watershed by enforcing environmental laws and defending them from statutory and regulatory rollbacks; advocating for strong water protection policies, regulations and permits; holding polluters and agencies accountable; and evaluating all threats that may harm waters of Penobscot Bay Watershed.
Investigate: Employ the best available science and investigative methods to assess the health of the water, land and ecosystems of Penobscot Bay Watershed to inform advocacy, conservation and outreach strategies.
Inspire: Communicate, organize and engage with partners, stakeholders and communities on matters important to protecting and cherishing the waters and land of Penobscot Bay Watershed.
Thrive: Create and implement systems and processes to ensure a robust, effective and financially sound organization. Strive to foster a culture that is fun, open-minded, collaborative and hopeful.
