BECKY BARTOVICS
Board of Directors
Becky is a grandmother, a farmer, local elected official and long time environmental advocate for Sears Island, serving as the Chapter Chair of Sierra Club Maine for 8 years as well as the Sierra Council of Club Leaders for 12 years.
Becky lives on North Haven island in Penobscot Bay and serves as a midden minder for the UMaine Archeology Department that is overseeing the climate-change caused erosion of thousands-of-years-old shell middens in native territories. Becky also serves on North American Rivers and Dams Alliance which seeks to educate about the significant damage that is done to the marine aquatic environments of large scale electric dams. Becky served on the Sears Island Planning Initiative and Joint Use Planning Commission which developed the 2009 Sears Island Agreement.
Becky has sailed for years on Penobscot Bay and has walked on most of its islands. Water is the connecting feature of all of Becky’s work, as she strives for clean free flowing water that supports life in the ocean.
Becky is excited to support the Strategic Plan that Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper has developed and looks forward to advancing that agenda robustly in the future.
